Make NO mistake, they are Zambian Ngoni (Nguni) and not Zulus. Zulus are also Nguni.
The Zambian Ngoni people flee away from Shaka Zulu during the South African Zulu/Nguni Wars.
The time Shaka Zulu was terrorising all Tribes in South Africa and forcing them to submit to his Kingdom, many people scattered and dispersed, some went into hiding and others were displaced as many crossed country into Malawi and Zimbabwe and making their way across the Zambezi river and settled in Zambia while some ran as far as Tanzania to get away from Shaka Zulu and the Bloody Nguni Wars.
The Zambia Ngonis are today still considered as Nguni People, as well as those who are in Malawi. Make NO mistake of calling them Zulus because they flee away from Zulus then, because they never wanted to be under the Zulu Kingdom and rulership.
Today they have a good relationship with their distant relative tribe the Zulus even though they no longer speak the Nguni language. They intermarried with Zambian Tribes and now use Zambian languages. However they kept their Nguni culture and traditions which they still proudly practice. And just like the Zimbabwe and Malawi Ngunis they also still wear their Nguni Traditional Attire during their special traditional Ngoni ceremonies to honour their Nguni heritage.
Ngunis are found in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, South Africa and Mozambique and they all have a similar attire which differs according to Tribes. People have a tendency of calling everyone in this attire as a Zulu, which is actually wrong because in actual fact it is a NGUNI attire worn by all NGUNIS of Southern Africa.
