Agriculture started in Egypt 4400 BC

Agriculture started in Egypt 4400 BC and this led to the civilization of Pharaonic Egypt. Farming communities emerged in the Nile Valley around 3400 BC. Some of these farming communities included Fayum, Merinde, Badari and Naqada where wheat and barley were cultivated and livestock kept.

The people also traded with the people of Palestine, Syria and Western Asia. After 3400 BC, these villages grew up into towns and formed small states in the Nile Valley.

Around 3100 BC, the towns were united into two main kingdoms. The first was lower Egypt which extended from the shores of the Mediterranean to the apex of the Nile Delta. The second was the Upper Egypt stretching from the apex of the Nile Delta to Aswan.

Lower and Upper Egypt were ruled separate states but later became unified under Pharaoh Narmer(Menes), the first Pharaoh of Upper Egypt. Egypt became the first country to establish a centralized government in the world.
